The concept is trending due to the dominance of the "Games as a Service" (GaaS) business model. Developers and publishers aim to maintain a consistent player base over years, not just weeks. A compelling end-game is the primary driver of this long-term retention. By continuously adding new end-game content, companies can keep players invested, which in turn supports revenue from subscriptions, battle passes, and cosmetic microtransactions. It turns a single purchase into an ongoing hobby and a reliable income stream for the developer.
