Pressure is the measure of force applied perpendicular to the surface of an object per unit area. The standard international (SI) unit for pressure is the Pascal (Pa). The relationship is simple: the same force applied over a smaller area results in greater pressure. For instance, a sharp knife cuts effectively because the force is concentrated on a very small area, creating high pressure. In contrast, a dull knife distributes the same force over a larger area, resulting in lower pressure and less effective cutting.
