A mesomorph is one of the three main somatotypes, or body types, first identified in the 1940s. This body type is characterized by a medium bone structure, broad shoulders, a narrow waist, and a naturally athletic physique. People with a mesomorph body type tend to have a higher ratio of muscle to fat. They often find it relatively easy to both build muscle and lose fat compared to the other two somatotypes: ectomorphs (naturally lean and lanky) and endomorphs (naturally have more body fat). Although the original theory linking body types to personality has been widely discredited, its application in physical fitness persists as a framework for people to understand their body's tendencies and pursue specific health goals.

Identifying as a mesomorph can influence a person's approach to diet and exercise. Because they can gain muscle easily, a combination of weight training and cardiovascular exercise is often recommended. Strength training helps build on their natural muscularity, while cardio helps maintain low body fat levels, as mesomorphs can also gain fat if they lead a sedentary lifestyle. Nutritionally, a balanced diet is typically suggested, often dividing the plate into one-third protein, one-third healthy carbohydrates, and one-third fruits or vegetables to fuel workouts and support muscle mass. This body type offers an advantage in gaining strength but still requires consistent effort to maintain a lean physique.
